REVIEWS

UGGLY THINGS #53 - Spring 2020, Doug Sheppard

Any band that titles an EP Eight Great Shakers isn’t fooling around, and this delivers on that promise with a lethal sound captured in a Portland basement for maximum primitivity. Originals like the Oriental exotica of “Drunken Noodle (In Your Pants)” and the garage pounder “Stay Away Papers” romp like new Back from the Grave discoveries, and on the covers front, the Sellwoods reshape the Adams Boys’ “Dizziness” into mad angularity, give the (Texas) Trolls’ “That’s the Way My Love Is” a fuzz-demento makeover, and unleash a rendering of Gonn’s “Doin’ Me In” so flammable that you can smell the kerosene. Purchase is not optional.
