In Madrid’s underground, bands keep emerging that understand rock’n’roll as a wild, physical and urgent territory. The Oompa Loompas are one of those subterranean creatures: a noisy, sharp, electricity-charged garage rock band that drinks deeply from the rawest sixties sound and twists it into a psychotic, contagious party.
The lineup features two well-known names from the scene, Chicho and Julia, members of Las Aspiradoras, one of the essential references of the dirtiest and fiercest garage rock to come out of the peninsula in the last decade. Here they retain that same kamikaze spirit, but push it toward a more melodic and celebratory terrain, where everything vibrates with urgency, elegance, and grit.
With this project they prove that garage is still a living, dangerous style in constant mutation. The Oompa Loompas don’t revive the sounds of the past — they set them on fire all over again.
