THE HAUNTED JUKEBOX
A Ghost Highway / Chaputa! Creepy Compilation

Fourteen songs. Garage, punk, surf, action-rock and a healthy dose of weirdness.

The Haunted Jukebox is a collection of songs for the darker side of rock’n’roll — creepy characters, strange stories, fuzzed-out guitars, pounding drums and the kind of riffs that sound even better when played too loud.

There’s no attempt here to make a polished Halloween soundtrack. This is rougher, louder and a little dirtier. The sort of record that belongs in a late-night bar, on a battered jukebox, at a basement party, or playing through bad speakers while everyone else is asleep.

The Boatsmen get things moving with the straight-ahead rock’n’roll of “Nightmare! Nightmare!”, before The Chuck Norris Experiment bring their action-rock punch to “Night Of The Demon.” Crater Snakes keep things suitably twisted with the fuzz-heavy “I Like To Die,” followed by Jake Starr & The Delicious Fullness and the wonderfully odd “Deviled Eggs.”

Then things take a turn for the strange.

The Langhorns head for the graveyard with the creepy instrumental surf of “The Mummy’s Groove,” while The Maharajas turn up the fuzz on “Trick Or Torture.” Märvel keep the amps working overtime with “He’s Back,” Thee Montgomery Wards bring some lo-fi garage-punk grime to “Vivienne’s Web,” and The Mourning After deliver a darker take on garage rock with “Spring Heeled Jack.”

OXYS add a nastier edge with “Melody Lee,” before The Riptide Rats slow things down for “Bone Dancer,” an instrumental surf number with plenty of twang and a touch of spaghetti-western atmosphere.

From there, Sator bring their unmistakable Swedish punk-rock attack to “Basement Noise,” Scumbag Millionaire hit hard with the dirty rock’n’roll of “Burn You Down,” and Upploppet bring the whole thing to a close with “He Will Be Back.”

Fourteen tracks, all with their own particular kind of trouble.

And while The Haunted Jukebox may have been made with Halloween in mind, there’s no need to put it away when the pumpkins are gone. This is a record for late nights, long drives, smoky bars, basement parties, and any Saturday night that takes a wrong turn somewhere after midnight.

Feed the jukebox a coin and let the strange stuff begin.
