Thirty years after their first release—and fifteen years since their last full-length album—Stockholm’s legendary The Sewergrooves return with The Acoin Session, a brand-new studio album to be released on June 25 through Chaputa! Records and Ghost Highway Recordings.

Emerging from Stockholm’s thriving underground rock scene in the early 1990s, The Sewergrooves quickly established themselves as one of Scandinavia’s finest garage rock bands. Blending Detroit-inspired power, soulful grooves and unforgettable songwriting, they built a reputation that reached far beyond Sweden through a string of acclaimed singles, EPs and albums, including Songs From The Sewer and Trouble Station.

Unlike many of their contemporaries, The Sewergrooves have never relied on nostalgia or revivalism. Their music has always been rooted in great songs, raw conviction, and an instinctive understanding of rock’n’roll at its most honest and uncompromising.

Recorded at the band’s own Acoin Studio and produced by the trio themselves, The Acoin Session finds The Sewergrooves sounding every bit as vital and inspired as they did three decades ago. The album draws from the explosive force of MC5 and Radio Birdman, the outsider spirit of Dead Moon and Wipers, and the melodic strength of Thin Lizzy, Roky Erickson, and early Urge Overkill. Yet rather than wearing its influences on its sleeve, the record sounds unmistakably like The Sewergrooves.

Across nine new songs, The Acoin Session delivers massive riffs, memorable melodies, soulful vocals and the kind of effortless swagger that only comes from a band that has spent decades refining its craft. Far from a nostalgic reunion or a look backwards, this is the sound of a band still writing with purpose, urgency and absolute conviction.

The album is presented in striking artwork by acclaimed illustrator Mik Baro, whose distinctive style perfectly complements the record’s grit, soul and high-voltage rock’n’roll.
